Myobrace – A Holistic Approach to Orthodontics
Does your child show signs of crowding or a deep overbite? Have you noticed they have trouble breathing through their nose and snore while sleeping at night? These are signs that they may have developed poor oral habits, which can be evident even before all the adult permanent teeth have fully grown. This means that treatment can begin at a much earlier age!The Myobrace® system is a treatment philosophy that establishes normal oral function by stimulating the muscles to form better habits. It is a therapy program that treats the root cause of such health issues through:
- No goop or gag to worry about
- Fast, accurate impression
- Ideal for crowns, bridges, implants, and Invisalign® clear aligners and retainers

Myobrace® consists of a series of intra-oral appliances that are worn for one hour each day plus overnight while sleeping. The appliances assist in correcting poor oral habits and expand the arch form while placing light pressure to align the teeth and jaws. In addition, the Myobrace®Activities patient education program is used to help correct the myofunctional habits causing incorrect dental and jaw development. These activities are done twice daily along with wearing the appliance and consist of breathing, tongue, swallowing, lip and cheek exercises.
It all starts with proper nasal breathing! Our nose is our primary breathing organ. If we aren’t breathing properly, health issues such as insomnia, high blood pressure, cardiovascular disease and many other illnesses can develop. Once nasal breathing has been established, we work on the tongue position. Besides speech and helping to chew our food, the tongue is responsible for keeping the teeth straight. It is one of the strongest muscles in our body and if not trained correctly, can interfere with the formation of our jaws and teeth. And lastly, we work on how to properly swallow and keep lips together at rest. The Myobrace® system is a wonderful tool and along with good patient compliance, it can be life changing for your child.
