Why Do I Need an X-Ray?
You did it, you booked your complimentary consultation and are now on your way to achieving that perfect smile you always dreamed of! At your first appointment, we will complete a full assessment to diagnose any necessary treatment options. Usually this means an x-ray will also be required.
X-rays are a crucial component in the diagnostic and treatment planning process and they allow Dr. Aggarwal to see what is beneath the skin and gums. The images are used to determine the position of the teeth and their roots, the size of the teeth and jawbones, any missing teeth, or maybe even extra teeth. He can also assess whether surgery, extractions, or dental work will be necessary prior to treatment. If a concern is uncovered, we are better able to catch it early on and refer you to the appropriate specialist.
The word “x-ray” may sound scary, as you might be thinking about the exposure to radiation. Not to worry! Your safety is our priority, which means we invest in the most up-to-date technology and equipment to reduce the low risk even further.
There are two types of x-rays taken at Bronte: panoramic (pan) and cephalometric (ceph). These radiographs require the least amount of radiation of any x-rays used in dentistry. They account for just a tiny sliver of the radiation you’re exposed to on a daily basis by just walking around, eating (even food contains radiation) and breathing.
The other benefit to taking a pan or ceph x-ray in our office is that they are super easy and comfortable to take. You’re able to see the images instantly and you won’t feel anything at all.
From the x-ray findings, Dr. Aggarwal will create an individualized treatment plan that will give you effective, stable results and ensure a harmonious smile!
