Why Does My Child Have Crooked Teeth?
From our education and clinical experience, environment actually affects children’s face and teeth development quite a lot. Teeth grow into a straight position when there’s a balance of forces between the tongue on the inside and lips and cheeks on the outside. When there’s an imbalance of these forces, due to improper tongue posture, the teeth are guided into crooked positions. Often the only way to correct crooked teeth is with two years of braces. For many children, they also have to have 2 or 4 adult teeth removed or even jaw surgery.
There’s a more natural way to treat your child’s developing teeth and jaws while they’re still growing to reduce the time and severity of braces treatment as a teenager. That way is the Myobrace system along with myofunctional orthodontic therapy!
While the baby teeth are falling out and the adult teeth are growing in (age 6-11 in most children), we ask children to wear a Myobrace every night and 1-2 hours in the daytime, usually during homework or screen time, along with a few minutes of myofunctional tongue exercises.
In addition to crooked and crowded teeth, crossbites, overbites, and underbites, Myobrace helps address:
- Teeth grinding
- Noisy eating habits
- Tiredness and difficulty concentrating in school
- Hyperactivity
- Snoring
- Mouth breathing
- Frequent throat and respiratory infections (e.g. tonsils, adenoids)
- Allergies
- Asthma
- Bedwetting
